The Sun King, King Louis XIV, ruled France for 72 years, from 1654 to 1715. He chose the sun as his emblem because it was a symbol of Apollo, the Greek god of peace and arts. Like Apollo, Louis XIV brought peace and prosperity to France and was a patron of the arts. He may not have had an iPod, but he did have an orchestra to play whatever music he wanted to hear whenever he wanted to hear it. What music would he have asked for?

The musicians of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra think they have the answer! They are thrilled to welcome early music expert Jordi Savall and radio personality Rachael Myrow to help them bring you back to the times of kings and queens, princes and princesses, and the extravagant court entertainments of the Palace of Versaille.

Families are invited to experience the beauty and grace of French Baroque music played on instruments as old as the music itself. You will also learn more about the 17 and 18th centuries, Baroque music and Baroque instruments. Musicians will be available after the concert to answer questions and give instrument demonstrations.
