Paul Swatek
Director of Finance
A regular member of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra audiences since 1983, Paul Swatek joined the Board of Directors in 1999 and served most of the intervening thirteen years as Treasurer. In March 2012, he resigned from the Board and came out of his retirement to accept a part-time staff position as Director of Finance.
Mr. Swatek’ professional experience has been in office administration in positions with the Sierra Club (Conservation Administrator), an Oakland law firm (Legal Administrator) and Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church (Business Manager). In 1970, he authored “The User’s Guide to the Protection of the Environment” (an early green-living guide published by Ballantine Books), and he also served as a television-news commentator on WGBH-TV Boston and worked for the Massachusetts Audubon Society. He served as an elected member of the Sierra Club’s national board before moving to California to take a staff position with the Club. In 1990, he obtained an MBA from Saint Mary’s College and worked for a while as a Series 7 licensed financial planner. He has degrees from Caltech and Harvard in chemistry.
Music has always been a strong interest. He enjoys singing in a small chamber ensemble at his church. The group has performed at a national convention of the American Choral Director’s Association and twice toured England. He and his wife Linda enjoy the arts, travel, exercise and play with their four granddaughters.
